Artist Statement
My foundation in art started at a young age. Influenced by my experiences in High School art class and my church going days, I began to define myself as an artist through spiritual contexts and the struggle to find a place in my environment. Progressing to my college years at Northern Arizona University I began to develop my creative skills and define my own interpretation of the female figure through my art.
My experiences outside of school have been not only challenging but an education in itself. Recently, I have discovered a correlation between my current self and myself at beginning of my art life. While I struggle to find my place in this world and community, I struggle not only as an artist, but also as a woman with all the roles she plays in.
My art work is a narrative concerning spiritual existence within the human body. I deal mainly with the human figure because it is the body that is a captive vessel for the mind. Thoughts have no boundaries, no limitations, yet it is the human body that limits and always brings us back to earth. More specifically, I deal with the female figure because I can directly relate to her functions, her emotions, and her struggles.
